Lit clay diyas arranged on a plate

Corporate Diwali partyA Diwali celebration that feels like the festival, not a calendar invite.

Rangoli in the lobby, sweets that actually taste of home, music people hum along to and a gift that is not a dry-fruit box from the same vendor as last year. We plan office Diwali celebrations and evening Diwali parties across Bangalore.

The short answer

How do companies celebrate Diwali at work?

Companies usually celebrate Diwali at work in the week before the holiday with an afternoon in the office — rangoli and lantern contests, a Diwali mela of team-run stalls, sweets and chaat counters, a lamp-lighting, a game of housie and music — or with an evening party at a hotel. Gifts usually go out the same week.

What keeps event owners up at night

Diwali is personal. Get it wrong and everyone notices.

  • It feels like a compliance exercise.A cake, a speech and a photo by the reception. We build it around things people do with their hands — rangoli, lanterns, stalls — so it feels like the festival.
  • Half the office feels left out.Not everyone celebrates Diwali. We frame it as the festival of lights and the season, keep rituals short and optional, and make the food the star.
  • Fire risk inside the building.Open diyas near curtains and a sparkler in a basement car park. We use LED diyas indoors, keep real flames to a supervised lamp-lighting and leave crackers out.
  • The sweets run out in twenty minutes.Counters sized for headcount, a second wave timed for the late shift and boxes to take home.

Rules and gifting

Crackers, fire safety and employee Diwali gifts

Crackers. We leave them out of corporate celebrations. Karnataka’s pollution control board told district administrations to allow green crackers only for Deepavali (Star of Mysore), and the Chief Minister said they should be burst from 8 pm to 10 pm (Outlook Business). On a client site that is one more permission, one more risk and one more thing for security to police. LED diya walls and projection give the glow without the smoke. Rules change; we confirm current requirements with the authority for your date.

Fire safety. Real flames only at the lamp-lighting, on a metal tray, away from fabric, with a fire extinguisher beside it and one named person in charge. Building management usually has its own rules — we get them in writing first.

Gifts. The Ministry of Finance clarified in 2017 that gifts up to ₹50,000 a year from an employer to an employee are outside GST (Ministry of Finance clarification, via TaxHeal). Ask your finance team how it applies to you. What employees value: a gift they would not buy themselves, chosen from two or three options, delivered to their desk or home — not handed out from a carton.

Method

How a Pani Productions event runs

  1. Brief & ballpark

A 30-minute call with your event owner. You get a format, venue shortlist and an itemised cost range you can take upstairs.

  2. Venue & concept

We check dates, layouts and rooms with venues, run a site recce, and build the creative: theme, stage, content flow.

  3. Production plan

Stage, LED, sound and light specified and drawn. Delegate logistics, rooming lists, transfers and F&B locked to a master timeline.

  4. Rehearsals

Technical rehearsal and a cue-to-cue run with presenters. Backup power, spare mics and playback files ready before doors open.

  5. Show day

One show caller on headset runs every cue. Your team hosts; nobody from your side should have to carry a radio.

  6. Close-out

Reconciled invoice against the estimate, vendor settlement, photos and a short debrief on what to repeat next year.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they book

What are good Diwali corporate celebration ideas?
A team rangoli contest, lantern or diya-painting, a Diwali mela of team-run stalls, sweets and chaat counters, housie with an emcee, an ethnic-wear day and a short lamp-lighting. Add a donation drive so the celebration also does some good.
When is Diwali 2026 in Karnataka?
Naraka Chaturdashi falls on Sunday 8 November and Balipadyami, Deepavali is the general holiday on Tuesday 10 November 2026. Most offices hold their celebration in the week of 2–6 November.
Can we burst crackers at our office Diwali party?
We advise against it. Karnataka has allowed only green crackers for Deepavali, in an 8–10 pm window, and offices and hotels usually ban them. LED diyas, lanterns and projection give the look safely. Rules change, so we confirm for your date.
How do we make an office Diwali celebration inclusive?
Frame it as the festival of lights and the season, keep rituals short and optional, invite every team to run a stall or share food from home, label food for dietary needs and avoid anything that feels like a religious obligation.
What should be on a corporate Diwali party menu?
A live chaat counter, a mix of regional sweets — Mysore pak and holige for Bangalore, payasam for Kerala teams — savouries, chai and coffee, plus clearly labelled Jain and vegan options. Plan a second wave for late shifts.
Is there GST on Diwali gifts to employees?
The Ministry of Finance clarified in July 2017 that employer gifts up to ₹50,000 per employee per year are outside GST. Tax treatment can be more detailed than that, so check with your finance team before you order.
We have 900 people across three Bangalore offices. Can one Diwali plan cover all of them?
Yes. One theme, kit and gift for every site, staggered by a day, with a small crew at each office and a shared lobby-screen loop. Kerala or Goa teams can get the same kit by courier with a local caterer.
